By the end, you will be able to
- Describe how the digestive system works, and what a colostomy and an ileostomy are.
- Recognise a healthy stoma, the output to expect, and changes that need review.
- Tell apart one-piece and two-piece systems, and closed and drainable pouches.
- Follow infection control and the steps for emptying and changing a pouch.
- Respond to common problems by following the Support Plan and contacting the Doctor or Stomal Therapy Nurse, and know when to call 000.
